Large mass of “maggot ore” hemimorphite, slightly damaged. The crystal tips of numerous, slightly divergent, bladed crystals of hemimorphite define the individual “maggots” in such ore. Hemimorphite was extensively mined at Sterling Hill during the latter part of the 19th Century because it lay near the surface and was easily smelted for its zinc content. Sterling Hill remains a notable world locality for the species.
