Labeled “magnetite from footwall band.” Possibly from the Furnace Bed, a magnetite-rich layer 3-8 ft thick just below the west limb of zinc ore at Franklin. The New Jersey Zinc Co. at one time wanted to sell the rights to mine this pure, rich deposit of iron ore, but was unsuccessful. Look for graphite in this piece – if present, it probably is an example from the Furnace Bed.
